street footie Football Club (0W-0D-1L) went into the club’s first-ever official eleven aside match just days after adding several new faces to their squad as they faced off against a confident Fredrick King (3 W-1D-0L), who currently share the top spot and are even on points with Deportivo Calero (3 W-1D-0L). With the season already underway, street footie would need an extra pinch of grit and desire if they had any hopes of a fairy tail start as they began their Mason Dixson Soccer League Spring 2022 Champaign.
The match would kick off in standard fashion with both teams trying to figure out what the other could do. A few loose passes and an inability to penetrate the opposition’s blockade consistently would see street footie pined back for several minutes of the half. However, despite Fredrick Kings looking like a formidable outfit, the new boys would display their defensive prowess and hold the league leader at bay as the teams would head into the break with the score at nil-nil.
The second half would carry on as the first ended, but by the 60′, signs of fatigue would begin to beam on the traveling club with two noticeable substitutes on the bench. Without question, the fresher legs of Fedrick king would capitalize on their advantage, scoring one and then growing in confidence to put four away in quick succession before deciding to see out the game with strings of possession.
Player of the Week
Quist picked up the player of the week award in our inaugural game in the Mason Dixon Soccer League. William Quist won numerous challenges and duels, but was unable to save street footie from a 5-0 loss against Frederick Kings.
Despite a grim scoreline, street footie will look to build on some positives as their upcoming fixture is against equal for points league leaders Deportivo Calero.
